Business electricity in Queensland
Queensland's electricity network is split between a dense south-east and a vast regional coverage area, and the two are served by different network businesses. Which one your site connects to shapes both the network charges and the range of retailers willing to compete for your business.
Queensland also has a large solar uptake across business sites, which adds feed-in arrangements to the comparison — a plan that looks cheaper on consumption alone may not be once solar export is accounted for.

- Energex, Ergon Energy
Energex and Ergon
Energex operates the network across South East Queensland, including Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Ergon Energy operates across regional Queensland — an area covering the vast majority of the state by landmass.
Both are network businesses: they own and maintain the poles and wires. Retailers buy from the market and bill you, but the network component of your bill is determined by the network your site is connected to.
Solar and feed-in for Queensland businesses
If your site has solar, your comparison has two sides: what you pay for the electricity you import, and what you are credited for the electricity you export. Feed-in rates are set by the retailer, so they differ between plans, while network charges apply to the import side.
A useful comparison therefore needs both your consumption from the grid and your export volume. Uploading a bill that shows a feed-in line is the most reliable way to capture both.
How to compare plans in QLD
Start from a recent electricity bill for the site you want to compare. The bill gives us the usage, the billing period and the network tariff that a comparison for a Queensland site needs in order to reflect how you are actually charged.
