About BillFair
BillFair helps Australian businesses work out what they should be paying for electricity, and who they could pay it to instead.
Why we built it
Business electricity is not like a household plan. The price you are offered depends on the network your site connects to, the tariff class on your meter, how much power you draw at once, and how much you use across the year. A comparison that asks for a postcode and a monthly bill is guessing at most of that.
So BillFair starts from your actual bill. We read the usage, the billing period and the network details from the document you already have, then compare plans on the numbers that appear on it. The aim is a like-for-like estimate, not a headline discount that disappears in the fine print.
Who we are
BillFair is a service of Youtilities Pty Ltd, an Australian company (ABN 73 692 274 721). The service is built and run by the BillFair team. We are not an electricity retailer, we do not generate or sell electricity, and we do not act for any retailer in a comparison.
How we rank plans
Plans are ordered by their estimated annual cost for the usage on your bill. Nothing else moves a plan up the list. A retailer cannot pay for a higher position, and no commercial arrangement changes the order in which offers appear.
We do show your current retailer alongside the alternatives, even when it is not the cheapest, so the comparison is complete rather than flattering to us. The full calculation is set out in our methodology.
How BillFair makes money
Comparing plans is free to you. If you choose an offer and sign up through BillFair, the retailer may pay us a referral fee. That fee is agreed with the retailer and is the same regardless of which of their plans you pick. It does not change the price you pay, and it does not change the ranking: a plan that costs you less always appears above a plan that costs you more.
If you ask us to manage a switch on your behalf, we charge a separate fixed fee for that service. The fee is shown before you authorise anything. You can always take a plan's details and sign up with the retailer directly.
Where the data comes from
Plan prices and terms come from the plan data retailers publish under the Australian Energy Regulator's Consumer Data Right rules. We take a fresh snapshot every week and keep the previous snapshots, which is what makes the Business Electricity Price Index possible. Your bill is used to build your comparison; the plan pages and index contain no customer information.
When we get it wrong
Plan data changes, and a feed can lag or contain an error. If you see a figure that looks wrong, or a plan that is no longer available, tell us at support@billfair.com.au and we will check it against the source. We correct the data rather than the claim.
More detail on the numbers is in the methodology. For anything else, the contact page is the shortest route.
